Personal Bio, Atte

My name is Atte Eerola. At the time of writing this I’m seventeen years old and I live in Porvoo with my parents. I live about five kilometers from the center of Porvoo so all the services and shops are close by but it’s a bit quieter and I like that. In my free time I enjoy doing things with my friends, reading and occasionally playing video games, although with a heavy emphasis on the “occasionally’’ recently as I’ve had a lot of work.

I’m currently studying machining and production technology, which sounds a bit stuck-up and fancy because really it’s the “fix stuff and make stuff” qualification. That’s obviously not a bad thing since we learn such a wide variety of skills, so future employment options are plentiful in the manufacturing field and elsewhere. I ended up studying this by complete accident. I had absolutely no idea what I should do so I asked an older friend what he had done. My friend then told me that he’s doing machining and production technology. We had a short conversation about the studies which he described as acceptable, so I went for it.

Another stroke of luck hit me hard when searching for a company to do on-the-job training as one of my teachers suggested AIPWorks and put me in contact with some of the employees. I talked with the boss there and was told that if I wanted to work for them, I needed to learn some things. So I did. I did the training with them and they were happy with my performance so I’ve been working with them since the first month of on-the-job training and have done some paid work for them during the holidays and after school.

Talking about my future at the moment is guesswork at best. The plan right now is to go to a university of applied sciences but after that I haven’t got a clue. I think it would be nice to move to another country and work there but that may not be practical since there are excellent work opportunities in Finland. 

As an employee or student I find myself to be interest-driven, which is something I would like to work on in the future. I work hard and put a lot of effort into learning new things as long as I find them interesting so it’s very lucky that I’ve found a field in which a majority of things are interesting to me.
